Bang & Olufsen
The Danish company Bang & Olufsen has over 80 years of experience. After it was founded in 1925, Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen first developed what is known as an eliminator. At the time radios were battery powered but the eliminator made it possible to power them with electricity. This was the first of many of Bang & Olufsen's success stories.
In 1932, Svend Olufsen bought the Bang & Olufsen company logo, which is now known all over the world, for ten Danish kroner. By the end of the 30's, the Beolit 39 radio had been manufactured, which was made completely out of the thermosetting plastic Bakelite. After the factory was destroyed at the beginning of 1945, new machines acquired after reconstruction by means of the Marshall Plan paved the way for the future.
The beginning of the 1950's marks a time when their work was not only centered around home electronics but also around interesting new designs for Bang & Olufsen devices. Thus began a search for experienced designers within the industry, and since this time several renowned designers have worked together with the company, such as Ib Fabiansen, Sigvard Bernadotte and Jacob Jensen. Today, Bang & Olufsen's image is partially shaped by the fact that it cooperates with some of the best known automakers. For instance, the company's sound systems are used by Audi, Aston Martin and Mercedes Benz.
