What are the disadvantages of media centers?

There are four different types of media centers and each type has its own set of disadvantages.

The first disadvantage of a PC media center, equipped with MS Media Center Edition, is the high purchase price. Its hardware is of a high quality used for executing various tasks but this also represents the second disadvantage of this PC because the media center also has a fan, which tends to make more noise, comparatively speaking.

Similar problems appear with the media center computer, which runs on free software. The user also needs hardware which is powerful enough to run the software.

A media center can also simply be a peripheral device. In this case, it is possible to encounter compatibility problems, and the engineering of these devices can sometimes also be less than perfect.

Overall, media centers can often get very expensive. Oftentimes, additional parts need to be integrated into the media centers, and these can cost quite a bit of money.
